Prometheus deployments in large AI infrastructure environments face limitations in high availability, long-term metric retention, and unified querying across clusters. Thanos provides a global, horizontally scalable monitoring layer that extends Prometheus with unlimited metric retention via object storage, cross-cluster query federation, downsampling for efficient historical analysis, and built-in high availability — while remaining fully compatible with the Prometheus query API.
